Herbert Pöck (born March 8, 1957 in Klagenfurt ) is a former Austrian ice hockey player and current coach .

Career

Herbert Pöck learned to play ice hockey in the junior teams of the Austrian record champions EC KAC and made his debut in the fighting team in the Austrian ice hockey league in the 1973/74 season . There he quickly developed into one of the most important players and was able to achieve 292 goals and 406 assists in a total of five hundred appearances (a total of 698 points scorer ). He was instrumental in ensuring that the team was able to win the championship title nine times during this time . In his entire active career he did not appear for any other club.

International

In the dress of the national team, he scored 55 goals in 127 international matches and scored 73 assists. With 128 points, he is the third-best scorer in the history of the national team behind Rudolf König (183) and Thomas Cijan (131).

Coaching career

Pöck's coaching career began at KAC, where he often appeared as an active player as a player- coach . Before he took up the post of national coach, he trained the EC Graz , the DEK Klagenfurt and the EK Zell am See . From 2002 to 2005 he was coach of the Austrian national ice hockey team , but did not come with the team above tenth place at the ice hockey world championship in 2003 and had to start relegation to the second division with the team in 2005.

Herbert Pöck is the father of Thomas Pöck , who made 118 appearances in the NHL for the New York Islanders between 2005 and 2009 and currently plays for the EC KAC in the EBEL . Just like his younger brother Markus Pöck who plays for the EC KAC.
