Herbert Plaeschke (born June 1, 1928 in Wismar ; † December 29, 2002 ) was a German Indologist , Oriental archaeologist and librarian.

Life

Herbert Plaeschke was the son of the bookseller from Silesia in Wismar Alfred Plaeschke (1896–1981) and his wife Margarete, née Möller (1898–1971). He studied Oriental Studies at the University of Halle and graduated in 1959 with a diploma.

From 1959 to 1962 he was an aspirant at the Department of Early History of the Orient . In 1963 he was with the work The Mithuna groups of Karla and her position in early Indian art to the doctor ( phil Dr. ) PhD. He then worked as an employee of the University Library in Halle and was entrusted with teaching assignments at the Institute for Oriental Archeology. In 1971 he completed his habilitation with the thesis The Mathura School. A paleographic and art-historical contribution to the solution of the Kaniska problem .
