Herbert Schimkowitz
Herbert Schimkowitz (born February 6, 1898 in Vienna , † August 24, 1938 in Graz ) was an Austrian graphic artist and illustrator.
Life
Schimkowitz was the son of the Hungarian sculptor Othmar Schimkowitz . He studied graphics at the graphic teaching and research institute in Vienna. From 1922 to 1923 he volunteered at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and from 1924 to 1928 worked for the Austrian State Printing Office as an artist, reproduction technician and consultant. In 1928 he returned as a teacher at the Graphic Education and Research Institute and was appointed professor there in 1930. In 1937 he took over the specialist board of the I. Section.
His artistic work mainly includes woodcuts and drawings as well as etchings. He also illustrated books.
