Herbert Strienitz

Herbert Strienitz (born February 18, 1921 in Schlettau ) is a former German trade unionist . He was chairman of the central board of the industrial union Wismut in the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB).

Life

Strienitz, son of a working-class family, attended elementary and vocational school as well as the Bergtechnikum. He completed an apprenticeship as a commercial clerk and worked on the job. In 1940 he was drafted into the army for military service. He became a British prisoner of war .

In 1945/46 he worked as a rail worker for the Deutsche Reichsbahn . In 1945 he joined the FDGB and the Social Democratic Party of Germany , in 1946 he became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany . From 1946 to 1948 he was an employee of the social insurance in Annaberg-Buchholz , from 1948 to 1956 he was an employee of the SDAG Wismut as well as a functionary of the central board of IG Wismut and temporarily chairman of the district board of IG Wismut. From 1956 to 1958 Strienitz studied at the trade union college "Fritz Heckert" in Bernau near Berlin . From 1958 to 1966 he was deputy chairman and from November 1966 to September 1985 chairman of the central board of IG Wismut in the FDGB. He left his position at his own request. At the same time he was a member of the secretariat of the SED area leadership in Wismut. From 1968 to 1987 he was a member of the FDGB federal executive committee.

From 1958 to 1986 he was also a member of the Karl-Marx-Stadt district assembly .
