Herbert Ulrich (born September 14, 1921 in Třinec , Czech Republic ; † May 23, 2002 in Bad Nauheim , Germany) was an international ice hockey player and successful ice hockey coach in Germany, Switzerland and Italy. As a national player he played for Czechoslovakia, Austria and Germany.

Herbert Ulrich began playing ice hockey in Třinec . From 1938 to 1943 Ulrich played for HC Sparta Prague . The squad of CSSK Bratislava in the State League he was from 1943 to 1945 and then moved to 1948 for Wiener EV . Other ice hockey stations were HC Neuchâtel Young Sprinters (Switzerland) and Berliner SC.

In 1948 Ulrich took part for Austria at the 5th Winter Olympic Games in St. Moritz and finished 7th with the national ice hockey team.

In the 1950/51 season Herbert Ulrich played for Prussia Krefeld . In the late 1940s and early 1950s, Prussia Krefeld was considered to be the best German team in terms of technology. On March 2, 1951, Prussia Krefeld and Herbert Ulrich became the undefeated German champions .

From 1951 to 1960 Ulrich played in the 1st team for VfL Bad Nauheim . He was the top scorer with 334 goals in 249 games and a goal quotient of 1.34 goals per game completed. 1952/53 Ulrich played in the German national team . Due to a complaint that Ulrich had previously played for two nations, he was denied participation in the 20th World Ice Hockey Championship and the 31st European Ice Hockey Championship in Switzerland. In 1960 Ulrich finished his ice hockey career as a player.

From 1961 to 1963 Ulrich was a coach in Switzerland at HC Ambrì-Piotta in the National League A and won the Swiss Cup in 1962. Further coaching stations in Switzerland were at HC Lugano, HC Davos and Zürcher SC. In 1964 Ulrich took over the coaching position at Bundesliga club EV Landshut in Germany. Other coaching stations in Germany were Krefeld, Frankfurt and in Italy at HC Auronzo. In 1969 Herbert Ulrich was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga with EC Cologne.

Ulrich was married, has two children and lived in Bad Nauheim until his death.
