Herbert Wagner (painter)

Herbert Wagner (* 1931 in Heiligenbrunn ) is an Austrian painter and teacher .

Live and act

As the son of the draftsman, graphic artist and poet Karl Wagner, Wagner initially grew up in Burgenland until his family moved to Freistadt in 1945 , where he also graduated from high school .

He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and at the University of Vienna teacher for art and handicraft education and history . He taught as an art teacher at secondary schools in Linz. His main school was the Bundesgymnasium_und_Bundesrealgymnasium_Linz, _Ramsauerstraße . In 1988 Wagner was the provisional director there for a few months. In 1991 he retired, only since then has he been mainly active as an artist.

His artistic work spans almost all techniques and sizes, with the direct experience of nature taking a special place ( printmaking , watercolor , pastel chalk and oil painting , fresco , sgraffito and mosaic ).

Wagner is also known as the free city painter. In 2013, a picture of the old town of Freistadt, which he had painted based on a historical template, was used as a motif for a special stamp for the Upper Austrian Provincial Exhibition 2013 with an edition of 5000 pieces. The original picture used as a template is owned by Karl Peböck from Pregarten.
