Herbert Wentscher (video artist)

Herbert Wentscher (* 1951 in Oldenburg ) is a German video artist and lecturer for visual communication at the Bauhaus University Weimar . He is the son of the painter of the same name Herbert Wentscher .

Career

Herbert Wentscher studied at the art academies in Stuttgart and Düsseldorf and was enrolled in art history at the University of Stuttgart and the University of Cologne . Wentscher received several scholarships from 1975 and was able to continue his international education, in between he also worked as an art teacher at the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium in Schopfheim .

In 1993 Wentscher accepted a chair in the design department at the Bauhaus University, was its prorector from 1997 to 1998 and dean of the faculty of design from 2006 to 2008.

Herbert Wentscher lives in Freiburg im Breisgau and Weimar . He is a member of the German Association of Artists .

Herbert Wentscher prefers to work with audiovisual media and used video as an art medium as early as the 1970s, and he also created paintings, sculptures and installations. Since the mid-1990s, Wentscher's works have been represented at exhibitions and events around the world and are part of internationally important collections. Between 2008 and 2014 several works were added to the digital video archive of the German Association of Artists as part of the DKB projects.
