Herbert Zech (born November 9, 1948 in Nenzing , Austria ) is an Austrian gynecologist specializing in reproductive medicine and in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Act

From 1979 to 1981 Herbert Zech was a university assistant / senior physician at the University Women's Clinic in Graz , after which he worked as a senior physician at the University Women's Clinic in Innsbruck . In 1986, Austria 's first triplets were born in Innsbruck after having had a fertility treatment with the help of in-vitro fertilization by Herbert Zech. In 1988 he was able to achieve the first pregnancy after artificial insemination in Moscow in what was then the USSR . The first Soviet test tube baby "Katja" saw the light of day in the 2nd Moscow Women's Clinic.

His work as a reproductive medicine specialist in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg was in part heavily criticized by the public. The Vorarlberger Nachrichten was published on 5./6. March 1988 with the title " Test-tube babies cannot be the future". Before that, on December 3, 1985, Vorarlberg's first IVF baby, "Martin", was born in the Bludenz regional hospital .

In 1988 Herbert Zech founded the Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Endocrinology in Bregenz as the first private hospital for in vitro fertilization in Austria (today: IVF Centers Prof. Zech ). Herbert Zech expanded his company by founding IVF institutes in Meran (2001), Niederuzwil (2002), Plzeň (2003), Salzburg (2005), Karlovy Vary (2008) and Vaduz (2012).
