Herbert Zeitler (mathematician)

Herbert Zeitler (born July 26, 1923 in Weiden ; † August 24, 2012 ) was a German high school teacher and professor of mathematics didactics at the University of Bayreuth .

Life

Zeitler attended the Oberrealschule Weiden from 1934 to 1942. Following military service and imprisonment, he studied mathematics and physics at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich from 1945 to 1949. From 1950 to 1968 he taught at the Oberrealschule Weiden and then moved to the Stiftland-Gymnasium Tirschenreuth as headmaster . In 1977 he did his doctorate at the comprehensive university in Kassel and in 1978 was appointed to the chair for mathematics didactics at the newly founded University of Bayreuth, which he held until his retirement in 1991. In specialist science and didactics, he mainly published in the field of geometry .
