Life

Apel experienced a typical fate for those cohorts who were just too young for regular warfare but could be ideologically captured and abused by the regime for their criminal goals. Later - when military service was introduced for the German Armed Forces in 1956 - the fact that he was born in white benefited him to the extent that these years were not even drafted. He wrote a documentary about his life, in which the tension between being fully supported by the family and being integrated into the regime to the terrifying realization of being deceived is described: Where did I come from? Where did i go

Apel only narrowly escaped death during a bomb attack on Kitzingen , in which mother and sister fell victim. At the end of the war he was an orphan and had to worry about starting his professional life on his own. This succeeded with the bricklayer journeyman's examination (1949) and the completion of the business school diploma at the higher commercial school in Würzburg (1950).

Apel started his own business in 1956, initially as a representative for paints and other painting accessories. This is how he came into contact with the well-known Caparol brand and then applied to the Deutsche Amphibolin-Werke (DAW) in Ober-Ramstadt . He was given the task of building up a subsidiary: Disbon, of which he eventually became managing director. In the more than 36 years of his activity for the DISBON company , he made it a well-known company for special products in the construction industry.
