Herlinde Menardi

Herlinde Menardi (* 1949 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian folklorist . From 2004 to 2014 she was director of the Tyrolean Folk Art Museum .

Life

Herlinde Menardi was born in Innsbruck in 1949 into a family with Ladin roots. After graduating from high school , she first worked in a travel agency in Vienna and in her father's transport company in Tyrol. From 1973 she studied folklore and history while working at the University of Innsbruck , and in 1978 she received her doctorate. From 1980 she worked as a research assistant in the Tyrolean Folk Art Museum , from 2004 until her retirement in 2014 she was the director of the museum. She initiated cooperation with scientific institutions and artists and was responsible for numerous special exhibitions, which often went beyond traditional folklore. The view of historical Tyrol was important to her . Menardi wrote numerous articles on religious folklore and folk art in Tyrol, the history of traditional costumes, historical home decor, handicrafts and the nativity scene. She was represented on the scientific advisory boards of the Trentino Folklore Museum, the South Tyrolean Folklore Museum and the Bolzano City Museum .
