Herluka von Bernried
Herluka von Bernried (* around 1060; † 1127 in Bernried in Bavaria ) was a Klausnerin .
Life
Herluka initially lived in the area of her homeland under the spiritual direction of Abbot Wilhelm von Hirsau . Tradition reports that even as a young woman she suffered from physical and mental anguish and sought to sacrifice it in prayer and in works of mercy. In 1086 she settled in Epfach south of Augsburg . She campaigned for the spread of the veneration of Bishop Wikterp (Wigbert) of Augsburg, who appeared to her in a vision . In 1122 Herluka fled to the Augustinian Canons in Bernried, where she lived as a hermit until her death in 1127. Parts of her correspondence with Diemut von Wessobrunn have survived from her time in Epfach . Herluka's feast day is April 18th.
