Herman David

Herman Francis David , CBE (* 26. June 1905 in Birmingham , Warwickshire , † 25. February 1974 in Wimbledon ) was a British tennis player and - functionary .

Life

David was born on June 26, 1905 in Birmingham, Warwickshire. In 1932 he took part in two Davis Cup games and won both. From 1953 to 1958 David was the captain of the British Davis Cup team and from 1959 until his death in 1974 he was president of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club . Through his efforts, the Wimbledon Championships have been held as an Open Era tournament since 1968 . David was inducted posthumously into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1998.
