Herman Theodore Schneebeli (born July 7, 1907 in Lancaster , Pennsylvania , †  May 6, 1982 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1960 and 1977 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Herman Schneebeli attended the public schools in his home country. In 1926 he graduated from Mercersburg Academy and 1930 Dartmouth College . He finished his apprenticeship in 1931 at the Amos Tuck School . In the following years he worked in Williamsport as a commission dealer for the oil company Gulf Oil Corporation and as a car dealer. During the Second World War he served between 1942 and 1946 as an orderly officer with the rank of captain in the American armed forces. Politically, he joined the Republican Party .

After the death of MP Alvin Bush , Schneebeli was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the by-election due for the 17th seat of Pennsylvania , where he took up his new mandate on April 26, 1960. After eight re-elections, he could remain in Congress until January 3, 1977 . During this time, among other things, the Vietnam War and the end of the civil rights movement, as well as the Watergate affair in 1974 .

In 1976 Herman Schneebeli renounced another congressional candidacy. After his time in the US House of Representatives, he withdrew from politics. He spent his old age in Williamsport and died on May 6, 1982 in Philadelphia.
