Alvin Bush
Alvin Ray Bush (born June 4, 1893 in Boggs , Clearfield County , Pennsylvania , † November 5, 1959 in Williamsport , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1951 and 1959 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Alvin Bush attended public schools in his home country. He started working in the Pennsylvania coal mines when he was 13. He later completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter. During the First World War he was used as a corporal in the US Army in the European theater of war. After the war he ran a car workshop in Philipsburg . He then became the owner of a bus route there. Later, Bush was president of the company Williamsport Transportation Co . He also ran a dairy farm in Lycoming County . He was also active in other industries. He was one of the directors of the Lowry Electric Co. and Muncy Valley Hospital .
Politically, Bush joined the Republican Party . In the 1950 congressional election , he was elected to the 15th constituency of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Robert F. Rich on January 3, 1951 . After four re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on November 5, 1959 . Since 1953 he represented there as the successor of Richard M. Simpson the 17th district of his state. During his time as a congressman, the Korean War and the beginning of the civil rights movement fell .
