Allen Edward Ertel

Allen Edward Ertel (born November 7, 1937 in Williamsport , Pennsylvania , † November 19, 2015 there ) was an American politician . Between 1977 and 1983 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Allen Ertel attended public schools in his home country and then Dartmouth College until 1958 . In 1959 he graduated from the Thayer School of Engineering and the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration . Between 1959 and 1962 he served in the US Navy . In 1965 and 1966 he worked for Federal Judge Caleb Merrill Wright . After studying law at Yale University and his admission to the bar in 1965, he began to practice this profession in Williamsport. Between 1968 and 1976 he was a district attorney in Lycoming County .

Politically, Ertel joined the Democratic Party . In July 1972 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Miami Beach . In the 1976 congressional election , he was elected to the 17th  constituency of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Republican Herman T. Schneebeli on January 3, 1977 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1983 .

1982 Allen Ertel renounced another congressional candidacy. Instead, he unsuccessfully applied for the office of governor of Pennsylvania. Two years later, his candidacy as Attorney General of his state also failed . He has practiced as a lawyer since leaving Congress.
