Hermann Aicher

Hermann Aicher (born June 11, 1902 in Salzburg ; † July 1, 1977 there ) was director of the Salzburg Marionette Theater for many years .

Career

Aicher was born as the son of the sculptor Anton Aicher and the Graz-born landowner's daughter Rosina Deutsch.

Aicher has been active in the theater since his father founded the Salzburg Marionette Theater in 1913. He studied in Vienna at the Technical University and at the Academy of Fine Arts , but broke off his training after the death of his brother in order to take over the management of his parents' theater. In 1926 he married the soprano Elfriede Eschenlohr and received the management of the theater from his father as a wedding present.

In the summer of 1977, on the occasion of his 75th birthday, Aicher was made an honorary citizen of the city of Salzburg at a gala event. Shortly afterwards he passed away. The artistic direction of the theater was taken over by his daughter Gretl Aicher .
