Hermann Ansorge (biologist)

Hermann Ansorge (* 1955 in Halle (Saale) ) is a German biologist specializing in zoology and mammalogy . Since 2009 he has been head of the zoology department at the Senckenberg Museum für Naturkunde Görlitz and since 2016 professor for special zoology (vertebrates) at the Technical University of Dresden .

Life

Ansorge completed a degree in biology and terrestrial ecology at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg between 1975 and 1980 , which he completed with a thesis on the subject of "Ecological investigations on songbirds in the smoke damage area Dübener Heide ". Subsequently, he was a research assistant at the State Museum of Natural History in Görlitz until 1985 , before he was appointed curator for vertebrates . 1990 received his doctorate from the department of biology of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg with a dissertation on the subject "On the intraspecific variability of the red fox Vulpes vulpes (Linné, 1758) in Upper Lusatia". He then worked until 2005 as senior conservator and head of general zoology at the State Museum of Natural History in Görlitz . In 2005 he was appointed chief curator there. He held this position until 2008, before he was promoted to head of the zoology department at the Museum , now operating under the name Senckenberg Museum für Naturkunde Görlitz , at the beginning of 2009 . From 2005 to 2008 the biologist was managing director of the German Society for Mammal Studies , from 2009 to 2016 its vice-president.

Since 1997 Ansorge exerts a teacher at the Zittau / Görlitz in the degree program Ecology and Environmental Protection from 2004 he was a Senior Fellow at Collegium Pontes 2004 Görlitz-Wroclaw-Prague , since 2005 he has been an honorary professor of ecology and phylogeny of vertebrates at the Zittau / Görlitz and since 2008 he has been teaching at the International University Institute Zittau in the biotechnology and applied ecology course . Since 2014 he has been teaching at the TU Dresden / IHI Zittau / Senckenberg Görlitz in the course Biodiversity and Collection Management . In 2015, the biologist was awarded an honorary doctorate from the National University of Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar , and since 2016 he has been Professor of Special Zoology (vertebrates) at the Technical University of Dresden.

In 1978, 1982, 2002 and annually since 2005 Ansorge has been involved in field work, academic teaching and research stays, especially in Mongolia .
