Hermann Asmus (born February 23, 1887 in Berlin ; † January 29, 1968 in Bergholz-Rehbrücke ) was a German film architect and theater painter .

Live and act

Asmus received training as a theater painter at the art school and arts and crafts school. In 1924 he joined the film industry and began as a painter and assistant architect. Hermann Asmus made his debut as the second architect at the end of 1935.

Asmus worked for mostly smaller film companies until 1939, after which he moved to the large companies UFA , Terra and finally Berlin-Film . After the war he found employment at DEFA until he left the GDR state company on May 31, 1962 - at last hardly involved in the design of backdrops.

Asmus mostly cooperated with other film architects (most successfully at DEFA with Emil Hasler ). His task consisted mainly in the execution of the designs of more important colleagues. He showed particular skills in furnishing fabrics such as Andreas Schlueter , Figaros Hochzeit and Das kalte Herz , but he also oversaw some contemporary and socially relevant stories with contemporary colors, including Die Buntkarierten .
