Hermann Bischoff (composer)

Hermann Bischoff (born January 7, 1868 in Duisburg , † January 25, 1936 in Berlin ) was a German composer and student of Richard Strauss .

Life

Bischoff comes from a wealthy industrial family in Duisburg. After brief lessons in Leipzig , he went to Munich around 1888 . In 1898 he married the painter Marie Himmighoffen (1874–1961), who came from Constantinople . In the following years he maintained close contacts with the Art Nouveau painter Fritz Erler and with the historian and syndic of the Royal Bavarian Academy of Sciences, Karl Mayr (1864–1917).

Hermann Bischoff was on friendly terms with almost all of the representatives of the Munich composers' school around Ludwig Thuille and Max von Schillings .

Bischoff created only a few compositions in his 68 years. For the last five years of his life he no longer composed, but earned his living with the Berlin copyright society .

The estate of Hermann Bischoff is in Richard Strauss Institute in Garmisch-Partenkirchen kept.
