Hermann Erbe-Vogel

Hermann Erbe-Vogel (born August 5, 1907 in Hof (Saale) , † December 15, 1976 in Freyung ; born Hermann Vogel ) was a German painter .

Life

The son of the businessman Karl Hermann Vogel and his wife Hermine Marie Luise Erbe came to Nuremberg with his parents in 1917 and, after completing an apprenticeship as a businessman, attended the local arts and crafts school from 1926 to 1929 . He then studied from 1929 to 1931 at the Art Academy in Berlin , which was followed by further studies at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris (1931 to 1932) and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (1932 to 1934).

In 1934 he moved with Hermine van Hees, whom he married in 1935, to Frauenau , where he lived from then on. In 1935, in honor of his grandmother, he adopted the nickname “Erbe”. He spent the Second World War as a member of the Navy .

In 1946 he was one of the founding members of the Danube Forest Group , in the framework of which he took part in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad. Erbe-Vogel mainly painted portraits, still lifes and landscapes. Gradually, his works gained greater recognition. From 1956 he went on numerous study trips to France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy and Yugoslavia.

Hermann Erbe-Vogel had a daughter, Veronika Hermine (1934 to 2007). He is buried in the Frauenau cemetery. A memorial is maintained in his former home.
