Hermann Geis (soccer player)

Hermann Geis (* May 23 , 1881 ; † 1957 ) was a German football player .

Career

Freiburg FC

Geis, attending secondary school in Freiburg im Breisgau, was spellbound by the hustle and bustle of the 40 to 50 English people aged 16 to 20 at the English cadet institute, which opened in Dreisamstrasse in 1889. Sports, especially hockey and soccer, were part of the daily educational program.

He joined the Freiburg FC, founded on December 17, 1897 by 14 students from the older age groups, in 1898 and remained a goalkeeper until 1899 . He took part with the team in the first final round of the South German Championship 1898/99 , which was held by the Association of South German Football Associations . The final reached on January 8, 1899 in Karlsruhe was won 6-1 against 1. FC Pforzheim .

FC Bayern Munich

In 1900 he went to Munich with Ernst Schottelius, Specht and Schilling, who intended to continue their studies, and joined the newly founded FC Bayern Munich . This "delegation" is attributed to Gustav Manning with the intention of "guaranteeing the survival of the new club and allies in the establishment of the association in Bavaria." He, co-founder and active player of the Freiburg FC and its first chairman, became secretary of the association in 1897 South German Football Associations (VSFV) elected, wanted to integrate Munich, which was previously nonexistent on the football map, into the association. For this purpose he had previously sent to Munich with Franz John and Josef Pollack , whom he knew from his time in Pankower and Freiburg, respectively, to advance his efforts. Geis remained with FC Bayern Munich, which joined the VSFV in the summer of 1900, until 1904. During his club membership he won the Munich city championship three times with Bayern . With the success from 1904, FC Bayern Munich qualified for the finals for the South German Championship for the second time. He and his team lost the quarter-finals held on March 13th at the Stuttgart Cickers with 0: 2; his fellow players included Bender, Bermühler , Crupe, Eicke, Friederich, Hesselink , Krause, Naegele , Schmid and Zumpe.
