Hermann Hallauer

Hermann Josef Hallauer (born June 8, 1926 in Wolsfeld ; † April 1, 2013 in Bonn ) was a German historian, philologist, teacher and expert on Nikolaus von Kues .

Haller studied from 1946 classical philology, philosophy and history at the University of Bonn and the University of Cologne . He received his doctorate in Cologne in 1951 with an (unpublished) dissertation on the pentalogus by Enea Silvio Piccolomini . From 1953 he was a teacher of Latin, history and philosophy and finally director of studies at the Nicolaus-Cusanus-Gymnasium in Bonn. In 1990 he retired.

He dealt in particular with the time when Nikolaus von Kues was Prince-Bishop of Brixen . Hallauer founded the publication Acta Cusana with Erich Meuthen in 1976 . Sources on the life story of Nikolaus von Kues and worked closely with him on the publication of the sources on the life of Cusanus.

In 2009 he and Meuthen received the Cusanus Prize from the Institute for Cusanus Research at the University of Trier (and the Dr. Birgit Helander Foundation for Cusanus Research). Hallauer was on the scientific advisory board of the Cusanus Society.
