Hermann Hartwich (politician)

Hermann Hartwich (born July 31, 1939 in Essen ) is a former German municipal official and city ​​director in Essen.

Life and work

Hartwich was born the son of a Krupp locksmith . His mother ran a small grocery store. After attending secondary school, he began an apprenticeship with the city of Essen. He became head of the education office and the main office. In the 1980s he became commercial director of the new Theater and Philharmonic Society and later head of personnel and organization.

In 1995 the SPD member Hartwich was elected to the office of senior city director of the city of Essen, which he held until 1999. After Kurt Busch, he was Essen's seventh and last senior city director, since the office for local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1999 was abolished and the duties were transferred to the mayor .

In 2000, Hartwich was elected chairman of the historical association for the city and monastery of Essen . Six years later, he resigned. He was also chairman of the Essen association Arbeit für Essen .
