Hermann Hecht

Hermann Hecht (born March 13, 1877 in Odenheim , † February 27, 1969 in New York ) was a German shipping entrepreneur who was expropriated during the National Socialist era .

Life

Hermann Hecht was born as the second youngest of five children of the Jewish main teacher and cantor Simon Hecht. He grew up in the Leitergasse in Gondelsheim, in an extension of the synagogue . After graduating from high school, Hecht began his training at various grain agencies, shipping and forwarding companies in Mannheim and Rotterdam and advanced to one of the as General Director of Rhenania Schiffahrts- und Speditions-Gesellschaft mbH , to which he and his brother Jacob Hecht made a significant contribution most important German inland shipping entrepreneur.

He was a member of the supervisory board of Allgemeine Speditionsgesellschaft AG (Duisburg), Rhenania Wormser Lagerhaus- und Speditionsgesellschaft mbH (Worms), Bavaria Lagerhaus und Transportgesellschaft (Munich), Münchener Lagerhaus und Transportgesellschaft (Munich), Neptun Transport und Schiffahrts AG (Basel) ), which belonged to the Rhenania group, as well as Hefftschen Kunstmühle AG (Mannheim), Herrenmühle AG (Heidelberg), Südwestdeutsche Versicherungs-Gesellschaft AG (Mannheim), Bayerische Schiffbaugesellschaft mbH ( Erlenbach am Main ) and CG Maier AG for shipping and Commission (Mannheim).

Hecht was a member of the board of directors of the Association for Safeguarding Rhine Shipping Interests (Duisburg-Ruhrort), the West German Inland Shipping Employers' Liability Insurance Association and the Central Association for German Inland Shipping (Berlin).

In 1938 he was forced to resign for political reasons and had to sell all shares in the Rhenania Group. In January 1939 he moved to Basel, after the outbreak of World War II in the United States.

After 1945 he was again in close contact with the group and took an active part in its rebuilding, most recently as honorary chairman of the supervisory board.

Awards

Hecht was awarded the Great Federal Cross of Merit in 1953 . He was an honorary member of the association for safeguarding the interests of the Rhine shipping.
