Hermann Hildebrand (politician, 1849)
Hermann Christian Ferdinand Hildebrand (born September 27, 1849 in Hann. Münden , † October 6, 1939 in Bremen ) was a German politician and mayor of Bremen .
Life
Hildebrand was born the son of a lawyer. He studied at the University of Heidelberg the law . During his studies in 1869 he became a member of the Frankonia Heidelberg fraternity . In 1874 he settled as a lawyer in Bremen (today: Ahlers & Vogel firm ) and also became a notary there in 1880. With his appointment as senator in December 1895 he gave up this profession.
politics
In 1879 Hildebrand was elected as a representative of the first class as a member of the Bremen citizenship as part of the eight- class suffrage at that time. On December 14, 1895 he became senator of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen . Hildebrand's main field of activity was welfare. In 1897 he founded the Central Office for Private Welfare and headed the regional association of the German Red Cross . During the First World War , he headed the war welfare department and formed the Central Aid Committee of the Red Cross in Bremen.
Hildebrand was elected mayor on November 16, 1917. In 1919 he joined the German Democratic Party (DDP). After the end of the Bremen Council Republic , Hildebrand was elected by the Bremen National Assembly on April 10, 1919 in Bremen's provisional Senate and he became mayor alongside Karl Deichmann (MSPD). On July 9, 1920, he finally resigned from the Senate. Hildebrand advocated the unified school in terms of educational policy during this time .
After the political career
Even after resigning from his political offices, Hildebrand remained active in the field of welfare. So he founded and headed the Bremen emergency aid from 1922. In 1933 he was released from this task by the National Socialists .
Honors
- In 1933 friends donated the Rehbrunnen / Hildebrandbrunnen in his honor in the Bremen ramparts by the sculptor Ernst Gorsemann .
- The Mayor Hildebrand Foundation , set up by the Senate after the Second World War , as the umbrella organization for welfare, was named after him.
- The Hermann Hildebrand House is located on Vinnenweg in Bremen- Oberneuland .
