Hermann Jadlowker (* 5. jul. / 17th July  1877 greg. In Riga ; † 13. May 1953 in Tel-Aviv ) was a Latvian opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Jadlowker was born in 1877 to a middle-class family and grew up in a strictly religious Jewish family. He completed a vocal training as a cantor in Riga before he was later able to take up training at the Conservatory of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna . His father had initially opposed his son's career as an opera singer .

In 1899 Jadlowker made his debut at the Opera House in Cologne in Conradin Kreutzer's opera Das Nachtlager in Granada . Appearances in Stettin , Karlsruhe and Riga followed. In 1903 he married Anna Hotz, with whom he was married until her death in 1940. In 1907 he worked at the Kroll Opera in Berlin and sang at the Berlin Court Opera from 1911 . During his operatic career Jadlowker made guest appearances at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City , the Royal Opera House in London and at the opera houses in Paris , Vienna and Berlin.

In addition to his work at the opera, Jadlowker also worked as a cantor. In 1929, for example, he held the office of chief cantor of the Rigens synagogue . Living in Vienna in the mid-1930s, Jadlowker emigrated to Palestine due to the political situation in 1938 , where he lived in Jerusalem until the death of his wife and then in Tel Aviv.
