Hermann Köster (politician)
Hermann Köster (born October 16, 1911 in Kiel ; † November 25, 1978 there ) was a German local politician ( SPD ). From 1959 to 1970 he was mayor of Kiel.
Life
After training as a book printer, Hermann Köster attended the arts and crafts school for eight semesters. He then completed a commercial apprenticeship. From 1933 to 1945 he was in the Navy . After he returned to Kiel from captivity after the end of the Second World War , he worked as archive manager at the Schleswig-Holsteinische Volkszeitung .
In 1946 Köster, who had been a member of the SPD since 1928, was elected to the Kiel council , to which he belonged until 1970. Initially he was responsible for the municipal utilities and from 1950 to 1956 for the professional fire brigade. From 1956 to 1959 he was the head of the sports department and then from 1959 to 1970 city president.
From 1946 to 1952 Köster was a member of the supervisory board of Kieler Verkehrs-AG , from 1952 a member of the board and from 1967 chairman of the board.
For his services to the community he was awarded the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Medal of the State of Schleswig-Holstein and in 1968 he received the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st Class .
