Hermann Kestner-Köchlin

Hermann Kestner (also Hermann Kestner-Köchlin ; born October 8, 1823 in Hanover ; † October 17, 1905 in Mulhouse , Alsace ) was a German doctor and author.

Life

Hermann Kestner was the son of Hermann Kestner (1786–1870) and grandson of Johann Christian Kestner (1741–1800) and Charlotte Kestner, nee. Buff (1753-1828), Goethe's Lotte.

He studied medicine at the University of Strasbourg (doctorate in 1857) and at the University of Göttingen (doctorate in medicine and surgery). He worked as a doctor at the hospital in Hanover and at the hospital in Mulhouse. He became a district doctor in Mulhouse and was given the title of Privy Medical Councilor . In 1855 he married Fanny Köchlin (1830–1905) from Thann , with whom he had six children.

His publication of letters from his uncle August Kestner (1777–1853) to his sister Charlotte (1788–1877) is of particular importance for literary studies .
