Hermann J. Kienast

Hermann J. Kienast (born March 14, 1943 in Stätzling near Augsburg ) is a German building researcher .

Life

Hermann Kienast studied architecture at the Technical University of Munich , where he received his diploma in 1970. He specialized in Gottfried pits on ancient building research, was his assistant from 1971 to 1972 and in 1974 a doctorate . In 1972 he became a consultant for building research at the Athens Department of the German Archaeological Institute , whose second director he was from 1984 until his retirement in 2005. In 1993 he was at Munich Technical University habilitated .

Since his studies, Kienast's main research area has been the island of Samos , in particular the city wall, the tunnel of Eupalinos and the Heraion of Samos , where he led the excavations from 1987 to 2004. In Athens he examined and published the Tower of the Winds .

Hermann Kienast has been a corresponding member of the Academy of Athens since 2001 and a full member of the German Archaeological Institute .
