Hermann Koenemann (born April 21, 1871 in Bonn , † December 23, 1934 in Wiesbaden ) was a German painter and graphic artist.

Life

Hermann Koenemann was born in Bonn in 1871. From 1890 to 1892 he attended the Karlsruhe Art School and was then a student of Eugen Bracht and Hans Meyer at the Berlin Academy . In 1901 he was studying in Paris at the Académie Julian . Further trips took him to northern France, England and Belgium.

In 1902 he settled in Wiesbaden, later in Berlin and in 1907/08 in Stargard in Mecklenburg. Since 1909 he lived in Schwerin , he was regularly represented at all major German art exhibitions, such as the major Berlin art exhibitions , but also in Vienna and Paris. Koenemann was a member of the General German Art Cooperative and the Free Association of Berlin Graphic Artists. The majority of his works were landscape paintings, his preference for birch trees made him known as a “birch painter”. But he also created small-format etchings, for example for Reuter money in Mecklenburg-Strelitz . The landscape painter Elly Beetz was his student in Schwerin . Hermann Koenemann died in Wiesbaden in 1934 at the age of 63.

“Hermann Koenemann is known as a birch painter. His landscapes are delicately perceived in their color effect and testify to a high painting culture. A slight melancholy and silence emanate from them, which calls for longer viewing. "
