Hermann Kopetz

Hermann Kopetz (* 1943 ) is an Austrian physicist and mathematician , former professor at the Vienna University of Technology and an expert in the field of fault-tolerant real-time computer systems.

Life

Hermann Kopetz studied physics and mathematics at the University of Vienna . In 1968 he received his doctorate sub auspiciis praesidentis and was then Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia . After eight years at Voest-Alpine Linz and a professorship at the Technical University of Berlin , he went to the Technical University of Vienna in 1982 .

Act

Kopetz is a real member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and a member of the Council for Research and Technology Development of the Austrian Federal Government . From 1996 to 1999 he was chairman of the Fault Tolerant Computing working group of the International Federation for Information Processing . Furthermore, Kopetz founded TTTech Computertechnik AG , which deals with data transmission systems in the automotive and aircraft industries. From 2008 to 2016 he was a member of the scientific advisory board of Lakeside Labs . He has been a member of the University Council of the University of Klagenfurt since 2018 .

Awards

Hermann Kopetz is a Fellow of the IEEE Computer Society and received the Technical Achievement Award in 2005. In addition, he was awarded the Great Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria and the Wilhelm Exner Medal .
