Hermann Kurz (politician)

Hermann Kurz (born September 20, 1897 in Biel ; † July 23, 1980 ibid), entitled to live in Pohlern , was a Swiss politician ( PSR / SP ).

Life

Family and pre-political career

Hermann Kurz's father, Jakob Kurz, worked as a carpenter and post office worker. Kurz graduated from business school in Biel before taking up a position at the Neuchâtel Cantonal Bank in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1916 . In 1920 he moved to the position of chief accountant at the watch company Tavannes Watch Co. in Tavannes . In 1928 Hermann Kurz returned to Biel, where he was employed as a business teacher at the Biel Business School. In addition, he obtained the federal accountant diploma and in 1932 the licentiate in commercial science at the University of Neuchâtel .

Hermann Kurz, who was married to Hulda Bertha, the daughter of the locksmith Adolf Rupp, died in 1980 in his hometown of Biel, shortly before he was 83 years old.

Political career

Hermann Kurz, who joined the Parti socialiste romand bienne (PSR), formerly an independent district, today a section of the party as a whole (SP-PS Biel / Bienne), served as Biel's city councilor from 1933 to 1940 and from 1945 to 1947 , including in 1946 as a President. In 1948 he was elected to the Biel municipal council , where he served full-time as finance director until he left in 1960. In 1951 the people elected him to the National Council , of which he was a member until 1955.

Hermann Kurz also acted as a member, president of the inspection body and from 1947 to 1974 as president of the board of directors of the Biel consumer cooperative, which later became Coop. In addition, he was a member of the board of directors at Bernische Kraftwerke AG and from 1931 to 1974 he was President of the board of directors of the Biel cooperative printing company.

His political commitment was particularly focused on commercial vocational training and cooperative housing construction.
