Hermann Lackner (born March 27, 1899 in Dellach im Drautal , † December 11, 1984 in Kindberg ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and carpenter.

From 1945 to 1949 he was a member of the Styrian Landtag and from 1949 to 1962 a member of the Austrian National Council .

Live and act

Hermann Lackner was born on March 27, 1899 in Dellach im Drautal and attended five classes of an elementary school before he attended three classes of a community school. Subsequently, he graduated from the commercial academy and worked as a carpenter's assistant between 1921 and 1925 . He was then from 1925 to 1928 state secretary of the woodworkers 'association , before he subsequently worked as secretary of the Social Democratic Workers' Party in Bruck an der Mur from 1928 to 1934 .

During this time he was also active as a functionary of the Republican Protection Association in Bruck and was imprisoned in the Graz-Karlau prison after the February fighting in 1934 until the end of 1935 . Only a few years in freedom he was accused of engaging in illegal activities and was arrested again in March 1938 as part of the "Anschluss" of Austria . On April 2, 1938, he was sent to the Dachau concentration camp on the so-called transport of celebrities , where he was given the prisoner number 13865. His prisoner category was “protective custody”. After almost a year and a half, Lackner was transferred from the Dachau concentration camp to the Flossenbürg concentration camp on September 27, 1939 . After several months in Flossenbürg , he was transferred back to Dachau on March 2, 1940, and after another five years he was liberated .

After the Second World War and its liberation, he was district secretary of the now SPÖ Bruck an der Mur from 1945. Lackner continued to represent the Social Democratic Party of Austria from December 12, 1945 to November 5, 1949 in the first legislative period in the Styrian state parliament . He then served from November 8, 1949 to December 14, 1962 as a member of the Austrian National Council . In addition, he was a long-time member of the regional party representation of the SPÖ Styria and from September 16, 1952 to April 13, 1954 chairman of the Bruck Housing and Settlement Association . In 1952, the cooperative founded on January 9, 1951 completed the first residential buildings in the Westend estate and handed them over to the tenants. Following his time as chairman, Lackner was chairman of the cooperative's supervisory board from April 13, 1954 to July 19, 1958. Numerous other residential buildings followed during Lackner's tenure.

Lackner died on December 11, 1984 at the age of 85 in Kindberg . Until his death he lived at Fraunedergasse 6 in Bruck an der Mur; On the street side at the corner of the house is a plaque donated by the Association of Socialist Freedom Fighters - LV Obersteiermark in memory of Hermann Lackner.
