Hermann Ludwig von Löwenstern (Marshal of the Nobles)

Baron Hermann Ludwig von Löwenstern (* December 25, 1748 . Jul / 5. January  1749 greg. Probably in Riga Stadtgut Wilkenhof, Latvian Viļķene , Governorate of Livonia , † September 25 jul. / 7. October  1815 greg. In Rasik , Governorate of Estonia ) was a German-Baltic landowner and Estonian politician.

origin

He came from the noble family of the Barons von Löwenstern and was the son of the Livonian landowner Baron Johann von Löwenstern (1716–1781) on Rösthof (Estonian Restu, today Risttee, municipality of Sangaste ) and his first wife Barbara Sophia née von Brevern (1725–1750), who inherited the goods Rasik, Campen (Estonian: Kampi) and Allafer (Estonian: Alavere ) in Estonia into the marriage.

Life

Hermann Ludwig von Löwenstern studied law at the University of Leipzig from 1767 . He then returned to the Baltic States and acquired the Wallkül estate (Estonian: Valkla mõis) in 1787 and the Jendel estate (Estonian: Jäneda ) in addition to his Rasik, Campen and Allafer estates .

In the self-government of the nobility, he became district nobility marshal in 1787 and then 1789–1792 government nobility marshal of the Estonian knighthood . His successor in the office of knight captain was Johann Jakob von Patkul . 1796-1814 he held the office of district administrator . In addition, he was president of the consistory of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Estonia from 1803 to 1815 .

Baron Löwenstern married Hedwig, née Staël von Holstein , daughter of Fabian Ernst Staël von Holstein on December 26th, 1773 in Kotzum (Estonian Kodasoo, municipality Kuusalu ) . Ten descendants emerged from the marriage:
