Christoph Staewen

Christoph Staewen (* July 24, 1926 ; † 2002 ) was a German doctor for internal medicine , psychiatry , neurology and psychotherapy and a writer .

Life

Christoph Staewen was the son of Werner Staewen and Gertrud Staewen , b. Ordemann (1894-1987). His mother was the sister of Hilda Heinemann and therefore sister-in-law of Gustav Heinemann .

After participating in the war and being a prisoner of war, Staewen studied medicine in Freiburg and Mainz and received his doctorate in Mainz in 1951. In 1952 and 1953 Staewen was temporarily involved in politics. He ran for the All-German People's Party (GVP) in the federal election in 1953. In contrast to his fellow campaigner Erhard Eppler , he turned his back on politics after the failure of the GVP and devoted himself to his profession as a doctor. Staewen worked in the following years as a specialist in psychiatry. With his boss Hans Ruffin he was u. a. active as a reviewer in the Pommerenke process.

In 1964 Staewen went on a study trip to the Tibesti Mountains in Chad with Friderun Schönberg . In the following years he worked as a general practitioner in Niger , Congo and Chad. On behalf of the Development Aid Ministry under Minister Erhard Eppler , Staewen was to set up an infirmary in the Tibesti Mountains in the town of Bardaï in the early 1970s . In 1974 he was there together with the French archaeologist Francoise Claustre and the French aid workers taken Marc Combe hostage. At that time, a rebel group led by Hissène Habré attacked the city of Bardaï, a small town with 1,500 inhabitants in northwestern Chad.
