Johann Jakob von Patkul (born November 9, 1757 - † May 3, 1811 in Essemäggi ) was the Estonian government aristocratic marshal .

family

Johann Jakob von Patkul came from the Patkul family and was a son of Wilhelm Rudolf von Patkul and Gertrude Margarethe Staël von Holstein .

He was initially married to Freiin Charlotte von Wrangel (1765-1830) from 1781 . From this marriage there were eight daughters. His second marriage was in 1798 with Charlotte Juliane Luise von Helwig (1778-1804). From this marriage the son Rudolph von Patkul (1800-1856) was born.

Life

Patkul was the heir to Habbinem, Tois , Essemäggi, Porrik and Raggafer . From 1774 he studied law at the Georg-August University in Göttingen. Patkul was a member of the Landsmannschaft der Kurländer in Göttingen and since 1776 also in the ZN student order . His pedigree from this period has been preserved and is now in the Württemberg State Library . In the years 1776–1777 he served with the rank of lieutenant in the Württemberg army . From 1792 to 1795 Patkul was the Estonian government aristocratic marshal of the Estonian knighthood . His predecessor in office was Hermann Ludwig von Löwenstern ; his successor in the office of knight captain was Alexander Philipp von Saltza .
