Hermann Mester

Hermann Mester (born April 24, 1888 in Bremen- Strom; † July 7, 1973 in Bremen) was a farmer and a Bremen politician and senator ( SPD ).

Family and work

Mester was the son of a full farmer in Strom. He attended elementary school in Strom and worked as a farmer and as an employee in agricultural organizations. From 1914 to 1918 served as a soldier in the First World War . Then worked again as a farmer in my father's business. From 1950 to 1956 he worked as an employee in the Bremen civil service.

politics

In 1907 he joined the trade union and in 1911 the SPD. In 1918 he became chairman of the SPD in Strom. From 1925 to 1933 he also worked as party secretary and main cashier of the SPD in Bremen .

In 1919 he was a member of the Bremen National Assembly and from 1920 to 1933 a member of the Bremen citizenship . In 1928 he ran unsuccessfully for the Reichstag in constituency 15 (East Hanover). During the National Socialist era , he was briefly imprisoned in a concentration camp .

In 1945 he became mayor (head of office) and later local office manager in the rural community or district of Strom.

In 1946 he was elected to the first Bremen citizenship and in 1946 he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. From November 28, 1946 to January 22, 1948 he was Senator for Food and Agriculture and from January 22, 1948 to December 31, 1949 Senator for Housing and National Culture. After that he was again a member of the Bremen citizenship and a member of the deputation for food and agriculture until 1955 .

From 1952 to 1964 he was spokesman for the advisory board of the local electricity office and spokesman for the advisory boards of the Senator for the Interior.

  • Mester was from 1927 to 1933 member of the community committee in electricity and member of the district council and district committee Bremen.
  • In 1927 he became chairman of the association of agricultural tenants in Bremen-Stadt and Bremen-Land and a member of the administrative committee of the agricultural trade association.
  • In 1946/1947 he was a member of the Food and Agriculture Council of the Bizone.
  • After 1945: Member of the Chamber of Commerce.
  • 1956 to 1968: Vice-President of the Bremen Chamber of Agriculture .
  • After 1956: Second dike captain at the Bremen dike association on the left bank of the Weser .

Honors

  • The Senator-Mester Street in current was named after him.
  • The allotment gardener colony Hermann-Mester-Garten in Rekum was named after him.
