Hermann Meyn (journalist)

Hermann Meyn (born October 6, 1934 in Bremervörde ) is a lecturer in journalism at the University of Hamburg , former editor at Spiegel , senate spokesman a. D. in Berlin and former chairman of the German Association of Journalists .

life and work

After graduating from high school in 1955 at the Athenaeum Stade , he studied political science, history and journalism at the Free University of Berlin . He did a traineeship at Stader Tageblatt , became news editor for RIAS , Berlin correspondent for Südwestfunk and political editor for Spiegel . From 1974 to 1979 and from 1985 to 1989 he was a member of the German Press Council . He was then from 1979 to 1981 the Berlin government spokesman and from 1989 to 1998 Federal Chairman of the German Association of Journalists (DJV). Together with Jan Tonnemacher, he is the author of the standard journalistic work Mass Media in Germany , the fourth edition of which was published in 2012.
