Hermann Pook

Hermann Pook (born May 1, 1901 in Berlin ; † 1983 ) was a German SS-Obersturmbannführer (1942) and, as a senior dentist, the superior of the dentists in concentration camps .

Life

Pook finished his school career at high school in 1921 with the Abitur . He then studied dentistry at the University of Berlin until 1925 and obtained his doctorate in 1927. med. dent. Between 1925 and 1940 Pook practiced as a resident dentist in Berlin-Lichterfelde .

On May 1, 1933 , he became a member of the NSDAP ( membership number 2.645.140) and on June 1, 1933, he joined the SS (SS number 155.870). At the beginning of October 1940 Pook joined the Waffen SS and at the beginning of December 1940 he became a dentist in the SS medical office. From April 1, 1942 to February 1, 1943 he was employed at the “Dental Institute of the Waffen-SS” and then as a dentist for the 9th SS Panzer Division “Hohenstaufen” . From September 1943 to the end of the Second World War in May 1945, Pook was the superior dentist of all dentists in concentration camps in Office D III of the SS Economic and Administrative Main Office, including the dentists Willy Frank and Willi Schatz accused in the 1st Auschwitz trial .

After his arrest, Pook was sentenced to ten years imprisonment by an American military tribunal during the Nuremberg Trials in the Economic and Administrative Main Office of the SS on November 3, 1947 . He was pardoned and released on February 1, 1951 from the Landsberg War Crimes Prison .

Then Pook practiced as a resident dentist in Hemmingstedt . In the "1. Frankfurt Auschwitz Trial Criminal case against Mulka u. a. ”he was interrogated as a witness; his testimony was read out on November 19, 1964.
