Hermann Prüßmann (born November 26, 1899 in Mülheim an der Ruhr , † July 15, 1980 in Wamel am Möhnesee ) was a German painter and graphic artist.

Live and act

After attending school in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Hermann Prüßmann began a commercial apprenticeship in 1916, but was then drafted as a soldier in 1917. After returning from the war, he continued his apprenticeship in 1919 and at the same time attended the arts and crafts school in Essen. In 1922 he made the acquaintance of the graphic artist Hermann Kätelhön , who introduced him to graphic techniques.

The Mülheim museum director Werner Kruse arranged for Prüßmann a scholarship from the Leonhard Stinnes Foundation in 1927 , which enabled him to study at the Dresden Art Academy . There he was Otto Dix's master student . In 1928 he married Luise Burkart. In 1930 Prüßmann returned to Mülheim and lived there as a freelance artist until 1939. During this time he drove regularly to the Emsland , especially to the Hümmling , where he made some drawings, etchings, watercolors and oil paintings. While he was a soldier in the war, his wife moved to Wamel am Möhnesee. After the end of the war, Prüßmann followed his wife. However, through regular exhibitions he kept in contact with his hometown Mülheim throughout his life.

With views of Mülheim houses and streets as well as landscapes of the Ruhr valley, Prüßmann made a name for himself in the professional world as early as the 1930s. He also recorded his Westphalian adopted home on the Möhnesee in drawings, etchings, watercolors and oil paintings.
