Hermann Rosa (born April 2, 1911 in Pirna ; † October 5, 1981 in Munich ) was a German sculptor who also received attention and recognition through his extraordinary studio houses.

Life

Rosa was born on April 2, 1911 in Pirna, the son of a stonemason, and grew up with six siblings at Oberpolitz Castle in Bohemian Leipa . After attending the stone school in Saubsdorf , he was a student of Drahoňovský at the School of Applied Arts in Prague from 1934 to 1938 . From 1939 to 1946, Rosa was a student of Karl Albiker at the Dresden Art Academy . After a brief assignment on the Eastern Front in 1942, he was able to continue his studies and survived the air raid on Dresden with his family. In 1946 he fled the Soviet occupation zone to Munich with his family and one-year-old son Veit. There he studied from 1947 to 1953 at the art academy with Professors Wackerle and Hiller. With a grant from the French state, he went to Paris to study in 1952 . In 1954 he began building two studio houses in Munich - Freimann, which he sold in 1959. A year later he started building the studio house on Osterwaldstrasse.

He died on October 5, 1981 in Munich. Rosa's estate was given to the Munich Architecture Museum.

His son Veit Rosa runs the Atelier Rosa. The studio can be rented as a location for exhibitions, presentations, photographs and vernissages.
