Hermann Rost

Hermann Rost (* May 24, 1822 , † May 24, 1896 in Leipzig ) was a German bookseller and publisher.

Hermann Rost was born as the son of the bookseller Christian Friedrich Adolf Rost , who had been a partner in JC Hinrichs'sche Buchhandlung since 1819 . His father became the sole owner of the company in 1840, and on January 1, 1850 he took on Hermann Rost as a partner. After his father's death in 1856, Hermann Rost was the sole manager of the bookshop. A year later, Rost published a work on Egyptology by Heinrich Brugsch for the first time . The magazine for Egyptian language and antiquity followed in 1863 . In the following years many Egyptologists such as Brugsch, Johannes Dümichen , August Eisenlohr and Hans Schack-Schackenburg published . Rost was supported in the management of the business from 1857 to 1868 by Adolf Refelshöfer , then by Gustav Herre . On January 1, 1887, Rost introduced his second son, Adolf Rost, to the company, and in 1891 his third son, David Rost .
