Hermann Rudolph (theosophist)

Hermann Rudolph (born May 8, 1865 in Eibau , Saxony ; † July 29, 1946 in Coburg , Bavaria ) was a German teacher and theosophist .

life and work

Hermann Rudolph's parents were weavers . He attended schools in Obercunnersdorf , Eibau and Riesa , where the family moved in 1876. From 1879 to 1885 he completed training at the teachers' college in Oschatz , after which he worked as a teacher in Reudnitz until 1924 .

In 1888 he married Marie Jeremias († 1948), the marriage resulted in a daughter.

Through the magazine Sphinx , Rudolph came into contact with theosophy for the first time in 1887 , with which he occupied himself until the end of his life. When exactly he joined a Theosophical Society is unclear. In 1898, Rudolph took over the chairmanship of the International Theosophical Brotherhood (ITV) in Leipzig from Franz Hartmann . He headed this organization until it was dissolved by the Gestapo in 1937 . Under his leadership, the ITV was the largest theosophical group in Germany with 40 lodges and 2,141 members in 1925 and 50 lodges in 1931.
