Hermann von Detten
Hermann Arnold Julius Chrstioph Ferdinand Maria von Detten (born May 30, 1879 in Hamm , † January 19, 1954 Natingen ) was a German landowner and ministerial official .
Life
Hermann von Detten was the son of the lawyer and center politician Georg von Detten and his wife Maria von Detten, born von Morsey (* 1874). His younger brother was the later NSDAP politician and SA leader Georg von Detten .
After attending school, Detten initially embarked on a military career. In 1918 he retired from the army with the rank of major . He then moved to the hunting lodge of the Sigmaringer Hohenzollern in Krauchenwies as administrator . Around 1930 he settled as a landowner in Möllenhagen in Mecklenburg. At that time he was also the press officer of the German Officers' Association .
On May 1, 1933, Detten joined the NSDAP ( membership number 2,641,129). In the same year, together with Franz von Papen, he founded the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Katholischer Deutscher (AKD), which he managed together with Hans Dauser and Rudolf zur Bonsen . In February 1934 Detten, while leaving the AKD at the same time, was moved by Rudolf Hess as the head of the party organization of the NSDAP to the head of the newly founded "Department for Cultural Peace" (in some cases it was also known as the "Compensation Office for Cultural Peace") in appointed to the Reich leadership of the NSDAP. The task of this office was to advise the party structure of the NSDAP in church matters and to deal with all questions related to the churches. In particular, the department should be responsible for mediating and settling religious conflicts within one of the two large churches, between churches and between churches with government agencies in order to preserve social life and “national unity”. The background to Detten's appointment to this position was probably that he had made a name for himself as a mediator between the denominations with his proposed statutes for the Bund Kreuz und Adler, the successor organization to the AKD. In addition to his work in the Reich leadership of the NSDAP, he also acted as general inspector of the rural school camps in Prussia.
After the dissolution of the department for cultural peace, Detten was appointed as the most important employee of Minister Hanns Kerrl in the Reich Ministry for Church Affairs , where he was ministerial director from July 1935 to July 1936 . For political reasons, he was given leave of absence in 1936 after Hermann Muhs was appointed State Secretary and was put into temporary retirement in 1937.
family
Detten was married to Edith Kripke (born March 31, 1898) since January 30, 1919. The daughters Adelgunde (* 1920) Editha-Margarethe (* 1923) and Hella (* 1934) as well as the sons Johann (* 1922) Hermann-Georg (* 1914) Friedrich (* 1926) and Rüder (* 1942) were born. emerged.
