Hermann Fürst , later Knight von Fürst (born March 29, 1837 in Ansbach , † February 11, 1917 in Aschaffenburg ) was a German forest scientist and the last director of the Aschaffenburg Forestry University .

Life

Fürst was born in Ansbach in 1837 as the son of a pastor. After attending secondary school in Nuremberg, he began studying at the Aschaffenburg Forestry School, where he became a member of the Corps Arminia . He completed his training at the University of Würzburg . In October 1857 he entered the forestry practice. In 1860 he passed the state examination. From 1865 to 1867 he was employed as a forestry assistant in Berchtesgaden , and from 1867 to 1874 in the internal service of the government in Ansbach. This was followed by positions as head forester in Berg and as district forest master with the government in Regensburg (1878). In the year of his transfer to Regensburg, Hermann Fürst was appointed director and professor at the newly reorganized forestry school (from 1899: Forestry University) in Aschaffenburg. In 1885 he was promoted to government councilor, in 1892 to chief forestry council. He published several forest science papers and was editor of the Forstwissenschaftlichen Centralblatt from 1897 . With the abolition of the institute and the relocation of the forestry studies to Munich (1910) he retired. He died in February 1917. He found his final resting place in the old town cemetery of Aschaffenburg .
