Hermann von Fürstenberg (* around 1460 ; † September 13, 1547 ) was canon in Paderborn and Münster .

Life

Origin and family

Hermann von Furstenberg came from the Westphalian noble family Fürstenberg , which takes its name after the Electoral Cologne country Burg Furstenberg leads. Numerous well-known personalities emerged from him who held important offices in church and state. He was the son of Wennemar von Fürstenberg zu Waterlappe (1417–1484) and his wife Karda von Galen zu Herten (1435–1516). His brother Johann was abbot in Siegburg Abbey , Friedrich (* 1460) was married to Mechthild von Plettenberg zu Nehlen . Their son Friedrich was a councilor and Drost of the Electorate of Cologne .

Act

Hermann studied at the University of Bologna . Together with his brother Johann, he was mentioned in a document on July 11, 1504 in connection with the Fürstenberg family comparison. In February 1508 he became canon of Münster and in September 1514 received a canon in Paderborn. On September 28, 1536 it came into the possession of the Archdeaconate of Velen. On November 6, 1544, Hermann renounced his parental inheritance in favor of his nephew Friedrich . In his will, he bequeathed the chalice and the utensils of his altar to his family. His executors gave foundations to the Himmelpforten monastery as well as to the vicarie St. Johannes in Bremen (Sauerland) , which he had donated with his brothers Friedrich and Wennemar in 1484. After Hermann's death, the papal chamberlain, Arnold von Brauweiler, raised a claim to his prebend.
