Kim Seok-jin (Korean: 김석진; born December 4, 1992 in Gwacheon ), better known as Jin , is a South Korean singer and songwriter . He is a member of the boy band BTS .

biography

Kim Seokjin was in on 4 December 1992 Gwacheon ( Gyeonggi Province ) in South Korea born. He has an older brother.

In his third year of high school , he was cast by SM Entertainment on the street, but he turned down the offer at that point. Originally, he wanted to be an actor, so he attended Konkuk University . He graduated from school on February 22, 2017 with a Masters degree in Art and Acting . He is currently enrolled at Hanyang Cyber ​​University to delve into areas of study other than music.

Jin was also cast on the street by Big Hit Entertainment , largely because of his looks. At that time he was already studying acting at the university and had no prior knowledge or previous experience in the music industry. For this reason, he initially only applied as an actor before finally opting for the path of “ idol trainee”. On June 13, 2013, he made his debut as one of the four singers of the seven-member K-pop group BTS .

Jin released his first co-produced track in 2016, a solo from the album Wings entitled Awake . The song peaked at number 31 on the Gaon Music Chart and number 6 on the Billboard World Digital Singles Chart. In December 2016, he released a Christmas version of Awake on SoundCloud .

On August 9, 2018, Jin's second solo, Epiphany , was released as a trailer for the BTS album Love Yourself: Answer, which was about to be released at the time . The song was described by Billboard as "Building Pop-Rock Melody" and contains lyrics about self-acceptance and self-love. The full version of the song was eventually released as a title on the album Love Yourself: Answer , peaked at number 30 on the Gaon Music Chart and number 4 on the Billboard World Digital Singles Chart.

In October 2018, South Korean President Moon Jae-in, along with the other members of the group, awarded him the Hwagwan Order for fifth-rate cultural merit.

Solo activities

Jin sang the song It's Definitely You with bandmate V , which was released as part of the original Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth soundtrack . He also released an alternative version of So Far Away with his bandmate Jungkook , a song from Suga's self-titled mixtape Agust D, in which the two tenors take over the parts of singer Suran. Kim's solo covers also include Mom by Ra.D, I Love You by Mate and In Front Of The Post Office In Autumn , originally by Yoon Do-hyun from 1994. They were released on May 7, 2015, on May 3, 2015. December 2015 and June 7, 2018 published on SoundCloud. Jin has also co-hosted Korean music chart shows such as Music Bank and Inkigayo several times.

On June 4, 2019, Jin released his first original song, Tonight, as part of BTS Festa 2019, an annual event marking the anniversary of the band's debut. The acoustic ballad was composed by Jin together with big-hit entertainment producers Slow Rabbit and Hiss Noise. Jin and BTS leader RM wrote the lyrics, which are inspired by Jin's relationship with his pets. The track was generally well received, with praise for Kim's vocals and the soothing atmosphere of the song.

On December 4, 2018, Jin donated various supplies such as food, blankets, and dishes to the Korean Animal Welfare Association on his birthday . On the same day, he donated around 321 kilograms of food to the Korea Animal Rights Advocates (KARA), another non-profit Korean animal welfare organization.

Since May 2018, Kim has been donating monthly to UNICEF Korea, but asked that his donations not be made public for the time being. They were eventually released after he was inducted into the UNICEF Honors Club in May 2019 and donated over 100 million won (about $ 84,000).

Private life

Jin currently lives in Hannam-dong , Seoul , South Korea . In 2018, Kim bought a luxury apartment in South Korea worth around 1.7 million dollars . Although he owns this apartment, he still lives in Hannam-dong with his bandmates from BTS . Also, he and his older brother opened a Japanese-style restaurant called Ossu Seiromush in Seoul in 2018 .
