Kim Tae-hyung ( Hangul : 김태형 ; born December 30, 1995 in Daegu , South Korea ), known as V , is a South Korean pop singer , songwriter and actor . He is the second youngest member of the seven-member boy band BTS (Hangul: 방탄 소년단), which was founded by Big Hit Entertainment in 2013 .

Life

Kim Taehyung was born as the eldest child of a farming family of five. He has a younger sister and a younger brother. He spent most of his childhood in Geochang, South Korea. He speaks Korean as his mother tongue, but can also mostly speak Japanese and some English.

He became a trainee at Big Hit Entertainment after being selected at a casting in Daegu .

He graduated from Korean Arts High School in 2014. He is currently enrolled at the Global Cyber ​​University.

Career

Since 2013: BTS

On June 13, 2013 he made his debut as the singer of the band BTS with the title No More Dream from their debut album 2 Cool 4 Skool. While the other members were known to the general public before their official debut, Taehyung was introduced as the seventh member on June 3, 2013. Since then he has made several television appearances on various shows. Taehyung belongs to the Maknae line (the youngest of the group) with Jimin and Jungkook.

The first song Taehyung co-composed was Hold Me Tight from the mini-album The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 1. Since then he has been writing and producing songs for BTS.

As part of the BTS-FESTA, Taehyung published the song 4 O'Clock in June 2017 , which he composed with the help of RM .

In October 2018, South Korean President Moon Jae-in V and the rest of the members awarded a medal for their extraordinary contribution to Korean culture and its spread. BTS are the youngest and first idols to receive this medal in the cultural awards.

In June 2019, V was named a member of the Recording Academy along with the rest of the BTS members . Membership enables him, among other things, to vote for the Grammy winners.

Since 2016: solo activities

In 2016 Taehyung started his acting career with the supporting role of Hansung in the historical series Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth . He also recorded the song Even If I Die, It's You with bandmate Jin as the soundtrack for the series.

In January 2019, V released his first completely self-written and composed song en (Scenery) on SoundCloud . This was followed by the song "Winter Bear" on August 9, 2019 with a music video which he directed himself and shows video material from his travels.

influence

In 2018 led Eugene Investment & Securities Co., Ltd . conducted analytical research on Google search trends in relation to the K-Pop industry. "V" was first in the table, meaning it was the most frequently used search term in South Korea for the past five years. In a poll conducted by Gallup Korea , he was ranked the 9th Most Popular Kpop Idol of 2018.

V coined the phrase "I purple you" (or 보라 해 (rom. Borahae) in Korean) during the BTS fan meeting in November 2016 . Since then, the color purple has become a symbol for BTS and their fans. UNICEF also used the term for its anti- bullying campaign in collaboration with BTS.

V is a baritone . Karen Ruffini of Elite Daily stated in her article that he "has no problem creating the calming, low-pitched notes that are a key element in the overall sound of BTS."
