Hermann Erbgraf zu Stolberg-Wernigerode (born September 30, 1802 in Wernigerode ; † October 24, 1841 ibid) was a candidate to take over government affairs in the county of Wernigerode .

Life

Hereditary Count Hermann zu Stolberg-Wernigerode was the second child and eldest son of Count Henrich zu Stolberg-Wernigerode (1772-1854) and Princess Jenny von Schönburg-Waldenburg (1780-1809). As a hereditary count, he was prepared from childhood to succeed his father. He studied law and entered the Prussian civil service. Later he took care of the reorganization of the count's metallurgy . In 1832 he moved to the Gedern family estate in order to reform the administration there. From 1838 he lived again in Wernigerode, where he took over the management of the property at the request of his father. His family usually spent the summer at Marienhof in Ilsenburg and the winter at Wernigerode Castle . Hermann zu Stolberg-Wernigerode made a special effort to promote the count's business enterprises. This included the expansion of the iron and steel works in Ilsenburg as well as the purchase of a machine factory in Magdeburg .

Hereditary Count Hermann had received a very modern education and made a special contribution to the reform of the mining and metallurgical industry in the county.

Hereditary Count Hermann died at the age of 39 out of desperation over the loss of his eldest son Albrecht (* March 17, 1836, † September 23, 1841). His second son was only four years old at the time.

On August 22, 1831, he had in Michelstadt Countess Emma Erbach-Fürstenau (born July 11, 1811 in Castle Fuerstenau , † December 1, 1889 in Schloss Ilsenburg ), daughter of Count Albrecht and Countess Sophie, nee Princess of Hohenlohe-Neuenstein- Ingelfingen married. His son Otto (born October 30, 1837, † November 19, 1896) was Vice Chancellor of the German Empire under Otto von Bismarck . His daughter Eleonore (February 20, 1835 - September 18, 1903), married to Prince Heinrich LXXIV. zu Reuss-Köstritz , made a name for herself as a song poet.
